Rifle loses first match in two years

The Nanook Rifle team had three matches in the last week. Saturday’s contest against the Kentucky Wildcats handed the Nanooks their first loss in nearly two years. Kentucky eged the Nanooks 4663-4651.

Alaska edged Kentucky in the air rifle competition, but the Wildcats’ impressive smallbore shooting was too much for the Nanooks.

Top Nanook shooters were junior Patrik Sartz in smallbore with a team-high 580. Junior Christofer Olofsson had the match-high air rifle score of 592.

Sunday, Oct. 21, the Nanooks shot at the University of Texas at El Paso, and won by a slim 47-point margin, 4625-4578.

Sartz again came through for the Nanooks with a match-best 582 in smallbore and team-best 589 in air rifle.

On Thursday the Nanooks started their whirlwind trip of three matches in five days by beating Texas Christian University 4653-4627. Sartz and Olofsson had the same match-high air rifle score of 590. Sartz also had the team-high of 585 in smallbore.

Scores for Sunday’s match against Nebraska were not available at press time.
