Dramatic Events

“A very merry, dancing, drinking, Laughing, quaffing, and unthinking time,” Shakespeare had a character say. UAF’s theater department is taking a page from that book with two upcoming events: a wine-tasting event, “Speakeasy,” and a production of Shakespeare’s “The Two Gentlemen of Verona.”

Speakeasy will take place at 7pm before the opening of “The Two Gentlemen of Verona” on Nov 9. The wine-tasting, a fundraising event for the Theater department, will include cheese, crackers, fruit, admission to the show and, of course, wine. Proceeds will go towards department scholarships and educational activities. “The Two Gentlemen of Verona” runs Nov 9, 10, 16 and 17 at 8 p.m., and Nov 18 at 2 p.m.

Bidding Wars

Bidding closed Friday for surplus items being sold at Central Receiving’s Warehouse. Items up for grabs included snow machines, desks, computer monitors, tables, chairs, file cabinets, ranges, refrigerators, wooden doors, and other excess from the UAF campus. Members of the public will be informed of whether or not their bids won later this week.

Sales are held about 3 to 4 times a year, according to lead warehouser Jim Haschke. In the intermittent, the warehouse collects and checks out items still in circulation, retiring them to sales only when they have been dormant for too long. Those interested in finding out about future events can ask to be added to the mailing list by calling the Warehouse.
