Nanook swimmers lose to Loyola Marymount, show potential and growth

The Nanook women’s swim team hosted the Loyola-Marymount Lions for two meets this week­end. Despite a strong showing, the Nanooks lost 127-78 and 117-87.

On Saturday the Na­nooks took first place in five of the 11 events. On Sunday, the Blue and Gold won six of the 11 events, and pulled the gap closer, to 117-87.

On Saturday, Fresh­man Mariya Pavlovskaya won both the 200 IM and the 200-yard backstroke. Sophomore Kelly Becker won teh 200 buterfly. The two also played key roles in the Nanooks’ 400 med­ley relay victory.

Sunday’s meet showed improvements for the Nanooks. Alaska found victory in the 200-yard medley relay of Jacque­line vanDriessche, Mariya Pavlovskaya, Kelly Becker and Karin Wagner. Pavlov­skaya then broke the team record in the 400 IM and won the 100-yard breast­stroke.
