Volleyball loses on road

Thursday evening, the Seattle RedHawks swept the Nanooks 30-26, 30-28 and 30-27.

Sophomore Megan Thig­pen led the Nanooks with 11 kills and 13 digs for her 15th double-double of the season.

Against Montana State Billings on Saturday, the Nanooks got off to an im­pressive start, but the Yel­lowjackets won 3-2 with scores of 30-25, 30-25, 22-30, 24-30 and 8-15.

Thigpen once again had an impressive perfor­mance with 17 kills and 17 digs. Melissa Refuerzo had 13 kills and Jessica Hill had 10.

The Nanooks dropped to 9-12 overall and 3-10 in the conference.

Swimming hosts Loyola Marymount

The Nanook women’s swim team hosted the Loyola-Marymount Lions for two meets this week­end. Despite a strong showing, the Nanooks lost 127-78 and 117-87. On Saturday the Na­nooks took first place in five of the 11 events. On Sunday, the Blue and Gold won six of the 11 events, and pulled the gap closer, to 117-87. On Saturday, Fresh­man Mariya Pavlovskaya won both the 200 IM and the 200-yard backstroke. Sophomore Kelly Becker won teh 200 buterfly. The two also played key roles in the Nanooks’ 400 med­ley relay victory.

Sunday’s meet showed improvements for the Nanooks. Alaska found victory in the 200-yard medley relay of Jacque­line vanDriessche, Mariya Pavlovskaya, Kelly Becker and Karin Wagner. Pavlov­skaya then broke the team record in the 400 IM and won the 100-yard breast­stroke.
