For those looking to study elsewhere but not trying to escape the cold, scholarships are available to study in Norway from January to June 2008. Most scholarships cover travel to Norway and living expenses for the duration of the program.
According to Donna Anger,
Associate Director of International Programs, available areas of study include Arctic Biology, Arctic Geology, Arctic Geophysics,
Arctic Natural Resource Management and Agriculture, Arctic Norway, Arctic Technology, International
Tourism, Natural Resource Management, Rural Development and Management of Local and Regional Development.
The scholarships are available at three universities
in Northern Norway as part of the Norwegian Foreign Ministry’s High North Strategy. Interested students should contact Anger in the Office of International
Programs by October 12.
Clean Energy
Jeff Deyette from the Union of Concerned Scientists
will lecture on clean energy options October 16. Deyette will take the stage at 7:30 pm in the Museum of the North’s auditorium and center his talk on clean energy’s potential reduction in emissions linked to climate change. His lecture is a community-
focused International Polar Year event.
Deyette is an energy analyst
for UCS, and focuses on both economic and environmental
components in his analyses of energy options.
He has co-authored a number of papers with UCS, and also published other science articles, in addition to working for the Army Corps of Engineers and as a Park Ranger.
