Three new hockey recruits
The Nanooks' hockey team has added three new recruits to its roster in the last two weeks.
On April 18, Derek Klassen of Whitehorse, Yukon, signed his letter of intent to play for the ‘Nooks.
Klassen, a center, played for the Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. He was a team captain and led the team in scoring.
Two more high-scoring forwards signed to the Nanooks on Wednesday. Tibor Kutalek of Skalica, Slovakia, is the first European recruit for the ‘Nooks since 1992. He played for the Santa Fe Roadrunners of the North American Hockey League.
Dustin Sather of Wanham, Alberta, played for the Grande Prairie Storm of the AJHL. He was the top scorer in the league as well as the league MVP.
The three recruits join Bryant Molle, Jamie Benn, Landon Novotney, Kevin Petovello, and Jeff Penner.
Volleyball recruits Erica Gage
Erica Gage, a 6-foot, 1-inch middle-hitter from Palo Alto, Calif., signed a letter of intent to play for the Nanooks in the fall.
This year, Gage was a team captain for Palo Alto Senior High school and made the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League's first team as a senior and got an honorable mention her junior and sophomore years.
Besides high school play, she has five years of club experience with various teams and even went to the Junior Olympics, where Nanook Coach Phil Shoemaker first noticed her.
