Hayes misses regent meeting again

Regent Jim Hayes came closer to attending a Board of Regent meeting while he was in Texas last week than he has for any of the board's meetings this year.

According to spokeswoman Kate Ripley, Hayes said Tuesday that he would not be able to make the meeting in Homer on Wednesday and Thursday because he was traveling to Texas for a family funeral.

Hayes had planned to phone in to take part in some of the meeting, Ripley said, but he wound up being connected for only a brief time at the beginning of Wednesday's meeting.

Missing student's body found

The body of a missing UAF student was found in the Chena River.

According to the police, the body that diver Chris Sandland found in the Chena early last week was Will Bergeson, the UAF engineering major who disappeared in November.

Bergeson disappeared Nov. 11 after a night of drinking with friends at the Midnite Mine. His family, girlfriend and other friends and classmates have spent the last five months searching for him, missing him and wondering whether or not he would return.

An autopsy report showed that Bergeson died of hypothermia and drowning, the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reported on Sunday.

The autopsy found no signs of trauma to suggest foul play, the News-Miner said.
