Oscar-nominated film in Hess
The last film in the Out and Proud Film Festival is Oscar-nominated "Transamerica."
The film chronicles the story of a male to female transsexual named Bree, played by Felicity Huffman ("Desperate House Wives"). She discovers she fathered a son who is in jail on the East Coast. Bree and her son cross America together on a road trip of discovery.w
The free screening will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Hess Recreation Center.
Springfest-activities this weekend
There will be no classes on Case Day, or Friday, as part of SpringFest, and the campus will be celebrating.
At 10:30 Thursday night, Josh Casey, a comedic juggler, will perform his one-man routine free for students in the Hess Rec Center.
Outdoor Adventures has a spring migration paddle planned for Friday and a bike trip in Denali on Saturday.
There will also be dorm organized parties, barbecues and games throughout the weekend.
Last chance to see "Picnic"
This weekend marks the last three showings of William Inge's "Picnic" and the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Theatre UAF.
Director Lee Salisbury calls the play "a slice of life," and considers the cast "one of the most talented groups [he has] ever worked with."
Showings will be at 8:15pm Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
