Hockey inks two late-sign recruits

The Nanooks started off the late-signing period by adding two new recruits to their roster for next year.

Jeff Penner of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's Dauphin Kings signed his letter of intent to play defense for the Nanooks Thursday, and Kevin Petovello, a center, of the British Columbia Hockey League's Victoria Grizzlies signed Friday.

Current Nanook Jordan Pernarowski was a teammate of Penner's with the Kings.

Victoria has been a treasure house for the Nanooks. Kyle Greentree and Curtis Fraser, both now playing in the AHL, along with backstop Wylie Rogers and sophomore Adam Naglich have also played for Victoria.

Petovello's current teammates Jordie and Jamie Benn have also signed with the Nanooks for next year. The two join forward Landon Novotney and defender Bryant Molle as 2007's freshman class.

Fraser named All-American

Former Nanook senior Curtis Fraser was named to Lowe's Senior CLASS All-American Team.

The announcement was made at the 2007 Frozen Four. The award, which originated in 2001 for basketball, just added hockey this year.

CLASS, an acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, identifies personal qualities that define a complete student athlete, with attention paid to classroom performance, character, community participation and competition in sports.
