Military strategist to speak Friday
An author dubbed as one of the most important strategic thinkers alive will give a lecture Friday at the Davis Concert Hall.
Tom Barnett, author of "The Pentagon's New Map" and "Blueprint for Action: A Future Worth Creating," will visit UAF as part of the International Polar Year.
Barnett is a prominent military strategist who has been involved in national security matters since the end of the Cold War. His book "The Pentagon's New Map" argued that the U.S. military needed to stop thinking of the post-9/11 world in Cold Wars terms.
The lecture is at 7:30 p.m.
ASUAF considers green parking, building construction
A resolution being considered by the student government would urge UAF to provide free or discounted parking to people using alternative fuels or who drive energy-efficient cars.
The resolution, sponsored by ASUAF Sen. Henry Cole, was introduced Sunday at the student government's weekly meeting. The resolution is intended to create an incentive for students, staff and faculty to use alternative fuels, such as ethanol and bio diesel, and to use cars that get at least 40 miles to the gallon.
The resolution wasn't Cole's only green bill before the student senate. Another resolution encourages UAF to make its proposed Biosciences Research Building as energy-efficient as possible. The resolution suggests that ASUAF will only support the construction of the building
