Clubs receive funds from first-ever mass solicitation
UAF's mass solicitation to Fairbanks businesses for money for clubs is complete.
According to Crystal Whittle, the Wood Center fiscal technician, 39 student organizations were awarded some chunk of the $7,903 that was received.
The university this year banned clubs from soliciting Fairbanks businesses. Instead, the UA Office of Development sent a mass solicitation to businesses for funds that would be divided among clubs.
A committee reviewed student organizations' applications for money and voted on how to distribute the money, Whittle said in an e-mail.
Student organizations are required to submit a form stating how the money was used by May 1, and are encouraged to contribute to thank you cards for the donors, Whittle said. She will use the information she collects to put together an annual report for donors and potential donors.
Participating student organizations were also asked to evaluate the process to make it run more smoothly in future years, Whittle said.
Majors Fair set for next week
An upcoming event is geared towards helping students plan their futures.
The Majors Fair, which is run by the Academic Advising Center, will be held in the Wood Center on April 4. The fair targets undeclared students and anyone considering changing their major.
