Korthauers lead ski team at NCAA meet
Junior Marius Korthauer gave himself a nice birthday present at the NCAA Ski Championships two Thursdays ago.
He finished third in the 10-kilometer freestyle race, edging out a tough rival by less than one second March 9. Korthauer's finish earned him a bronze medal and a trip to the podium for that effort.
The same day, sisters Julia and Anna Coulter finished strong as well. Julia, a sophomore, finished ninth in the women's 5-kilometer freestyle, making her an All-American. Anna, a redshirt freshman, finished 13th after taking two days off of training due to a cold.
Korthauer's sister Aurelia had been in third place after one-and-a-half kilometers, but couldn't keep up her pace, and finished 36th.
Hockey season ends at hands of Irish
After defeating Bowling Green the weekend before, the Nanooks went into their next set of playoff games under first-ranked Notre Dame.
Their first game of the weekend was a shocker, as the Fighting Irish blanked the Nanooks 7-1, with five of those goals in the first period. Senior Defenseman Nathan Fornataro scored the Nanooks' lone goal in the third period, assisted by junior Ryan Muspratt and freshman Jeff Lee.
The Nanooks' outcome was better Saturday night, but not enough to push for game three, as the Irish took the game 3-1. Sophomore Adam Naglich scored the ‘Nooks' only goal in that contest.
