Faculty tackle developmental education
The Faculty Senate before spring break endorsed eight guidelines from a university task force on how to improve developmental education.
The guidelines are part of a report by the Developmental Education Task Force on the state of developmental education at UAF. They address such issues as housing and hiring for the Department of Developmental Education, standards and designs of developmental education classes, and ideas and measurements for student success within the program.
"Basically [the motion] is saying that in looking through the report, it's worth it to start implementing it," said Linda Hapsmith, a member of the Faculty Senate's Developmental Studies Committee.
In addition to the motions, the report included a history of developmental education at UAF and justification for the necessity of each recommendation. It was written for Bernice Joseph, vice chancellor for rural, community and Native education.
