Nanooks advance in CCHA Playoffs
The Nanooks split their first two games in their playoff series against Western Michigan, forcing a third game and winning it 2-1.
The 'Nooks came from behind on Friday, scoring twice in 55 seconds, to force the overtime period. Senior captain Lucas Burnett got a pass from sophomore Trevor Hyatt to put the game-winner away for the 'Nooks. The final score was 3-2.
Saturday's game was a 6-2 loss for the 'Nooks. They were held scoreless for the first period, while the Broncos put three pucks past goalie Wylie Rogers, who was replaced for the second and third periods by Chad Johnson. The 'Nooks were held scoreless in the third period while the Broncos netted two.
UAF took game three. Rogers kept the Broncos scoreless until the final minute of the game. Nanooks Curtis Fraser, Aaron Lee and Adam Naglich scored a goal each period to put the 'Nooks up.
The Nanooks will next face No. 1 seed Notre Dame starting Friday.
Women's basketball splits final trip
The Lady Nanook basketball team beat Western Oregon 61-54 Thursday night. Top scorers were junior Kari Reabold with 18 points, freshman Caitlyn Rohrbach with 14, and senior Karen Rabung with 13.
Saturday the 'Nooks lost to St. Martin's 64-57. Top scorers for the 'Nooks were Reabold, with 17, and Rohrbach, with 14.
It was the final game for seniors Rabung and Mia Seagraves.
