Condom bingo on ASUAF's table

Sex and beer, two controversial and quintessential aspects of college, may receive partial funding from ASUAF if the student senate passes two bills discussed Sunday.

ASUAF Sen. Andrea Devers has sponsored two bills that would fund a "Condom Bingo" event and a "Beer and Blow" party.

If the bills pass as written, the events would be held during the week of March 18.

Both events are proposed primarily as forms of sexual education, and secondarily as entertainment. Students would gain information from their peers, as well as free condoms, refreshments and other prizes at the events.

If the bills pass, ASUAF would allocate $300 dollars to the events.

Climate change author visits Monday

UAF's International Polar Year Visiting Author Series will kick off with a lecture from visiting author Tim Flannery.

In addition to his lecture Monday, Flannery will meet with senior geography students, postdoctoral researchers, and participate in the Great Alaska Weather Modeling Symposium.

Flannery, who was a field zoologist before focusing on writing, was recently named Australian of the Year.

His book "The Weather Makers: How Man is Changing the Climate and What it Means for Life" has received international praise. He has discovered and named more than 30 new mammal species.
