Men's basketball wins, loses
The men's basketball team won a pivotal game over Seattle Pacific 75-70 on Thursday. The on-the-road win helped the ‘Nooks keep a foothold above their other GNAC competitors.
Seattle Pacific is tied for first place in GNAC standings with UAA. Alaska is tied for second with Central Washington and Seattle University.
Top Nanook scorers included Kenny Barker with 24 points, Mike Titus with 16, Steven Sandles with 13, and Jushay Rockett with 12.
Saturday, the ‘Nooks tipped off against Central Washington. They controlled the first half of the game, but couldn't put it home, ending with a 74-67 loss. ‘Nook top scorers included Rockett with 24, Barker with 12, Colin Matteson with 10.
Ski team heading to championships
Although the Nanook skiers didn't come out on top in the CCSA Championships, they will send a full team to the NCAA Championships in Jackson, Vt. on March 7-10.
Juniors Vahur Teppan and Marius Korthauer took first and second place in the men's race Feb. 18. Freshman Henri Soom posted a ninth place finish, good enough for a third spot at nationals for the Nanook men.
The Nanook women heading to Vermont will be Aurelia Korthauer, and sisters Julia and Anna Coulter. The three were ranked fourth, fifth, and seventh respectively in the region.
This is the first time coach Scott Jerome has qualified a full team.
