Provost candidate drops out, one left

One of two candidates for provost withdrew his name from the race last week.

James Pratt, currently dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at Clarkson University, notified the search committee that he was undergoing final negotiations elsewhere, and could no longer remain in the running for the UAF position, said committee co-chair Phyllis Morrow.

"He was a finalist at two other places," Morrow said.

Pratt was a finalist for similar jobs at both University of Montana and Cleveland State University, according to student newspapers at both schools.

"At this point we're going to continue with our interview process with Dean [Susan] Henrichs this week and then a committee will meet early, very early, next week and we'll consider where we want to go next," Morrow said.

HR fixer hired

After a consulting firm recommended redesigning Human Resources, the department has begun the process of implementing some of its ideas.

John Duhamel has been hired as the transition leader for the change. He will begin his job by listening to campus and system concerns to develop an analysis of human resources at UA.
