The UAF hockey season screeched to an end last weekend as the Nebraska Omaha Mavericks ran over the Nanooks.
UAF lost 3-4 on Friday and 3-5 on Saturday.
Curtis Fraser, Lucas Burnett, Jordan Emmerson and Nathan Fornataro celebrated seniors' night on Saturday.
"These four guys had a huge contribution in every way," said head coach Tavis MacMillan.
On Friday night, the Nanooks lost 3-4 after having a 3-1 advantage at the end of the first period.
Maverick Dan Charleston made the first goal with an assist by Jeric Agosta and Mark Bernier.
But with an assist by teammate Dion Knelsen, Fraser sunk one in the trunk, tying the game 1-1 at the first period's half. Fraser then scored another shot with the assistance from the Knelsen brothers Dion and Brandon, giving the Nanooks a 2-1 lead.
Darcy Campbell, assisted by Brandon Knelsen and Kyle Greentree, scored a zinger on a power play.
During a Mavericks power play in the second period, Tomas Klempa scored after teammate Juha Uotila shot across the net with an assist from Charleston. On another power play, Brandon Scero, assisted by Bryan Marshall and Uotila, shot over the top of Nanook goalie Chad Johnson.
Scero sealed the Nanooks' fate 3-4 early in the third period with his second goal of the night, assisted by Mick Lawrence and Uotila. The Nanooks couldn't fight back.
On Saturday, the Mavericks dominated the ice 0-5 until the end of the third period when the 'Nooks were able to rally three points ending the game 3-5.
In the first period the Mavericks took two points on goalie Wylie Rogers. The Mavericks scored again in the first 30 seconds of the second period.
Rogers was pulled soon after in favor of freshman Erik Largen who had played only a total of only three periods this season. After only 19 seconds into the third Mavericks Bryan Marshall backfired another point into the 'Nooks tailpipe 0-5.
Freshman Nanook Jordan Pernarowski scored his first career goal with an assist by Lucas Burnett and Trevor Hyatt. Next was Hyatt himself, with an assist by Steve Vanoosten and another assist by Lucas Burnett.
With 31.5 seconds left, Fraser scored his 18th shot of the season with assist by fellow seniors Fornataro and Burnett. The game ended 3-5.
