Festival of Native Arts begins

The 34th Annual Festival of Native Arts kicks-off Thursday.

It will include workshops, food, a craft fair, and continuous live performances with traditional singing and dancing.

The festival focuses on highlighting the various artistic expressions of the different Alaska native cultures in a collective venue.

The events will be spread across lower campus, in the Great Hall, Davis Concert Hall, and the Wood Center.

The festivities are Thursday through Saturday from 6 p.m. to midnight.

All performances are free and open to the public.

'Vagina Monologues' on stage this weekend at Salisbury

A benefit production of Eve Ensler's infamous play "The Vagina Monologues" will be held this weekend at the Salisbury Theatre.

The play makes a semi-regular annual appearance in Fairbanks to raise money for the Interior Alaska Center for Non-Violent Living.

Righteous Ladies Rebelling, the Women's Center, Theatre UAF and the Student Activities Office are organizing the performance.

"As sharp as Sex and the City, as unmissable as Friends and as funny as Smack the Pony, this riotous evening is the ultimate girls night out," the Theatre UAF Web site declares.

Performances are in the Salisbury Theatre on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $5 for students with Polar Express Cards and $10 general admission.
