UAA chancellor resigns for new post
UAA Chancellor Elaine Maimon is leaving to serve as President at Governors State University in Illinois, the university announced Saturday.
Maimon, who has been at UAA since 2004, will start her new job July 1. In the meantime, she will assist with the transition to a new chancellor.
President Mark Hamilton plans to announce an interim chancellor by the end of February, as well as beginning the search process for a new chancellor.
Maimon's accomplishments included the reorganization of student services and breaking ground on a new integrated sciences facility.
Early warning committee established
Students having difficulties academically or otherwise have new help from the Division of Stuent and Enrollment Services.
The Early Warning Committee was formed to assist students who are having trouble academically, or whose personal or financial problems are interfering with their ability to attend and succeed in class, said coordinator Tim Lowers.
According to Lowers, faculty members refer the students to the committee. The committee then develops an individualized approach to identify and refer them to the appropriate services, he continued.
"The idea is to help students persist in the completion of a degree here," Lowers said.
A group of individuals who work in different areas such as financial aid and residence life formed the group as part of the Division of Student and Enrollment Services, he said.
