Pianists open three-day music festival

Stephen Drury and Yukiko Takagi will perform contemporary pieces to kick off a three-day New Music Festival on Wednesday.

Both performers are acclaimed pianists who have made notable contributions to modern music.

Drury was declared musician of the year in 1989 by the Boston Globe and has performed globally.

Takagi travels often doing piano duo concerts with Drury and specializes in contemporary piano.

Ticket prices are $10 for general admission and $5 for students.

The festival runs Wednesday through Saturday.

Drury will host a clinic and lecture Wednesday from 6-8 p.m.

The pianists will perform Thursday, and give a free faculty concert on Friday and a free student concert on Sunday.

Performances start at 8 p.m.

'Evil' film fest features 'State of Mind'

North Korea is next on the naughty list for the Beyond the "Axis of Evil" Film Festival, which features six documentaries about the people who live in "evil" nations.

This week's movie, "A State of Mind," is about the struggle of two school girls who are performers in the Mass Games.

According to the producer's Web site, "The film provides a rare glimpse into what is one of the world's least known societies."

The showing is at 7 p.m. in the Hess Recreation Center on Wednesday. It also showed in the Pub on Monday.
