Provost candidates announced

Two finalists for provost have been selected from opposite sides of the country, university officials announced Wednesday.

Susan Henrichs, dean of the UAF Graduate School and vice-provost for instructional affairs at UAF, and James Pratt, Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at Clarkson University in New York have been invited to campus for interviews.

"Candidates are being scheduled for on campus interviews February 19 through March 2," Hild Peters, academic and faculty services manager, said in an e-mail.

Though they currently work on opposite coasts, Henrichs and Pratt have similar beginnings, having both earned bachelor's degrees at the University of Washington.

According to her curriculum vitae, Henrichs later earned her a Ph.D. in chemical oceanography from a joint program between Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.

Pratt earned his doctorate in zoology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University after earning a master's in biology from Eastern Washington University.

Forest sciences program reaccredited

Forest enthusiasts were able to breathe a sigh of relief Thursday after UAF announced its forest sciences program would retain its accreditation from the Society of American Foresters. The accreditation is based on a review of the program throughout 2006, and will be valid until 2016, according to a press release.
