'Evil' film festival hits campus

Michael Franti's documentary, "I Know I'm Not Alone," about the perpetual conflict in the Middle East, will be the first film to play at the Beyond the "Axis of Evil" Film Festival.

The event, sponsored by the Student Activities Office, will feature a film each week until March 7. Franti's documentary focuses on the filmmaker's quest for peace in the Middle East.

"This film came out of my frustration with watching the nightly news," Franti said in a statement. "[H]earing generals, politicians and pundits, explaining the political and economic cost of the war in the Middle East, without ever mentioning the human cost."

Students can catch the film Wednesday at the Hess Recreation Center at 7 p.m.

The film also played in the Pub on Monday.

Mind-bending hypnotist Carter performs Saturday

Professional hypnotist Christopher Carter will give two performances Saturday.

Campus activities magazine awarded Carter the title of entertainer of the year in 2005.

His amazing feats require audience participation and include bending cutlery, accurate predictions and reading minds.

According to his Web site, Carter first discovered E.S.P. at age eight. In college, he majored in psychology and theater, but took up hypnotism while doing graduate work.

Audiences can catch him 8 p.m. at the Pub and 10:30 p.m. in the Hess Rec.
