The force play

I was reading the latest edition of Sun Star and felt the same way about the meal plan, even though I am not on the welfare, but I really don't get why UAF has to force students to buy the meal plan. I don't think UAF has the right to do that, because each student has a different lifestyle. Some people can eat two times a day in the commons, but some are just not "heavyweight." I mean I only eat once a day, you might think it's unhealthy, but one meal a day is all I need. Being a senior now, time is getting less and less, however, the most important thing is that I don't eat a lot. I can't even finish my seven meals a week.

Anyways, on top of meal plans, I think there are two more unfair charges to most students. First, $13 of transportation fee, and second, the SRC fee.

I've lived in the dorms for three years now, never bothered taking the bus, so why should I pay for something I don't use? $13 is not a lot of money to me, but this is not about money, it's about students' rights!

Second is the SRC fee. I remember they used to let you choose for the SRC option when you paid tuition, and now, again, UAF "forces" students to pay the fee. Does that sound right to you? Just ask yourself, how many students are enrolled in UAF and how many are actually using the SRC services? Sure UAF makes a hell of a lot of profit on that, don't you think? Besides, the SRC is so small and crowded during the busy hours there is no space in the weight room. Being charged the SRC fee just not fair to the students.
