Art piece of the week
By KAY KOERNER

Wholly incomparable, Moore's pieces defy all the laws that govern ceramics. He calls his wall hangings "skins" because he strips his pieces down to the bare essentials, minimizing the importance of form and removing all distractions, leaving something akin to a blank hide canvas. "Base Canvas" is so much more than its moniker expresses. The piece has dimension, personality, and seems to be straining at the seam to protect its cargo. No mere vase or vessel, Moore's "skins" are artfully ambiguous, permitting the viewers to bring whatever baggage they wish to their interpretation.

"I liked the process of building something and being creative with clay, but I wasn't really jazzed about making pots" Moore explained. "Working with clay, for me, is like working with a skin."
