The ASUAF Senate welcomed its members back into session with a lot of new legislation and business. The newest three senators, Michaela Hunter, Stephen Krutko, and Cody Rogers, took their oaths of office. A student commented that the Senate should revise its process for selecting those who go to Juneau to lobby for increased UA funding. Ten articles of legislation were introduced and sent to Senate committees for discussion. SB165-045, which details the Senate's policy on the recording of minutes, passed 11-0. SB165-046, which would require all appointments to the Senate to circulate a petition and gather signatures, was returned to the Internal Affairs Committee. SB165-047, which clarifies one of the powers of the Senate Chair, was rejected 0-14. SR165-021, which clarifies the rules of procedure of the Senate, passed 11-1. The five committees of the Senate were re-populated. The Senate meets weekly throughout the semester, on Sundays at 5 p.m., usually in the Wood Center's conference room E/F. This was the last meeting for the Fall semester, but the Senate will resume Jan. 22. For more information please go to http://asuaf.org, or come by the ASUAF offices on the lower level of the Wood Center. |
