Columnists are often complaining about shit, and in case you were wondering, this week's editorial is no exception. To make sure we don't leave anybody out this week, we're going with the new "shit list" format (and yes, we use the word "shit" 23 times). So, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, I give you… the shit list (drum roll please): Museum Director Aldona Jonaitis tops off the shit list this week for the shitty look on her face when asked about placing a Sun Star newspaper rack in the museum. "Oh god no!" she responded when one of her blonde minions asked the loaded question, "We don't want that, do we?" as if I had set down a toilet full of shit in the museum's entryway. Next on the shit list is the student government, which clearly does not give a shit about their chronic low voter turnout. Six Senate candidates failed to show up for a planned photo shoot set up by Vice President Dani Carlson, two candidates (the only two actually in a race) failed to turn in biographies, and - like the infamous card game - I'm calling "bullshit" on that. The funny thing is that with only one contested seat up for grabs in the election, it doesn't really matter, and none of us (including myself) should give a shit in the first place. That is, of course, unless students rally around the cause of Wood Center tobacco sales and come out in droves to vote for cigarettes and chew, unexpectedly breaking the usual "lower than the bottom of a shithouse hole" voter turnout ASUAF gets every semester. That brings me to Chancellor Jones, a man whom it is extremely difficult to talk shit about but somehow made it onto the shit list this week with his plan to stop tobacco sales at the Wood Center. I understand the point, it's unhealthy, and that's why I don't smoke. But for students, who already tend to think the administration is full of shit on any and every topic, it just looks like an abuse of power and becomes a control issue, not a health issue. Jonesy, I love ya man, but you can't take cigarettes and chew away from kids, that's just a shitty thing to do. Well, that's it for the shit list. Sorry for the negativity folks, but sometimes you just have to get this shit off your chest. |
