Levi Geurts and Jamie Beyerle led the rifle team to its second victory over visiting Kentucky Oct. 29 at the Patty Center.

Both teams had improved performances all-around, as UAF bettered its scores from Friday’s match by 15 points. The Nanooks out shot Kentucky 2,367 to 2,330 in air rifle and 2,351 to 2,335 in the small bore, for a combined team score of 4,718 to 4,665.

Geurts, a freshman, shot a 593 in the air rifle and Beyerle, a senior, a 593 in the small bore tying Kentucky’s Ray Geyer and Andrew Roland, who also topped their team efforts by the same scores in the respective events.

The rifle team has a three-week break until their next match Nov. 19 at the University of Mississippi. They will also visit Murray State on Nov. 21 and the University of Tennessee-Martin on Nov. 22.

 

Swim team places third

The women's swim team finished third among division II universities at the Pacific Invitational Oct. 28 and 29 in Stockton. Seattle University finished first with 974 points followed by UC Santa Cruz with 948.

Leading the way for the Nanooks was junior Hilary Carlisle in the backstroke and butterfly and freshman Samantha Zinsli in the freestyle with three top-10 finishes.

The UAF swim team will next compete in the Speedo Cup in Long Beach, CA. The three day meet begins on Thursday Nov. 17 and will conclude on Saturday, Nov. 19.

 

Volleyball falls to 1-18

The UAF volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on the road this week. On Thursday, at Humboldt State University, the Nanooks went 1 for 3, and on Saturday, at Western Oregon University, UAF was shutout 3 to 0.

The losses drop the Nanooks to 1-18 overall, and 1-14 in GNAC play.

The Nanooks next play the UAA Seawolves in Anchorage on November 5, before returning to Fairbanks for the last regular season games against Western Washington Nov. 10 and Central Washington on Nov. 12.
