Halloween isn't just for religious fanatics anymore

Pumpkins, costumes, candy and more were on hand for the many Halloween festivities this past weekend. There was something for all age groups, and whether for the underage or the legal to drink, there was plenty of fun to be found.

“Freak Week,” an entire week of programs at the MBS complex, culminated with a Halloween Carnival and trick-or-treating.

Dances were held on campus both Friday and Saturday night. On Friday it was held at the Salisbury Theater with a slogan so catchy it drew it’s own crowd: “A Ghoulish Delight with Spooky Stage Fright. All Demons unite as we dance til' midnight! All Blood types. All ages.” Saturday’s dance was hosted in the Hess Rec. Center, and although it didn’t have it’s own jingle, it still received plenty of attention. Other than the carnival at Hess Rec, the weekend seemed to be more focused toward the drinking age crowd than to minors.

If dances weren’t your style a few thriller movies such as Saw II and The Fog conveniently made their way to theaters.

For the over-21 crowd, nearly every bar was hosting a costumed fiesta. The Pub featured the 15th annual Dead Writers Reading and Raffle, where people dressed up as their favorite writer or poet and read a short piece of their idol’s work. The socially and politically aware could attend a lecture by a Tibetan Lama who survived as a political prisoner of China.

As is common for holidays, the places to be were the loads of parties that accompanied the Halloween theme. Ladies dressed up as scantily as possible and guys being as dorky as possible. Aaaahhh to be in college… life is grand.
