Commendations on questions Whoop, whoop...way to go. Loved the article (See "Questions for authority," Sept. 27, 2005). It's being passed around up here at Butrovich right this very moment. I couldn't agree more...stop by anytime and take a look at the beautiful view though...it's great! Would really love class up here too! Great article! On exile... At several years voluntary remove from the combative confines of the UAF School of Management, I admit to lack of familiarity with all of the currently entrenched names and faces. I do recall Dr. Reichart well, however, and I must admit to having smiled in amused memory at his cavalier dismissal of retribution as a likely motivation behind Dr. Spark's exile to Dillingham. To be fair, however, there does exist a certain logic to Dr. Reichart's position. After all, if I as an extremely well compensated Provost had overseen the loss of accreditation for the only School of Management department bearing such accreditation plus the significant endangerment of accreditation for the School of Management as a whole, I would not be amiss either to having vocal reminders such as Dr. Sparks of my past failures dispatched well out of sight. Alas, the Provost's logic has failed him in at least one regard -- contrary to his purposes, Dillingham has proven an insufficiently remote exile. What next -- Kotzebue?
Tenure Tantrums I went to the UAF web site as a prospective student and am dismayed at the way UAF would treat tenured faculty. This move is an obvious attempt to oust a tenured professor as a totally political move. This incident substantially affects my opinion of UAF and my decision to apply here.
