Lady 'Nooks split conference games |

The UAF Nanook Women’s Volleyball team split a two match series this week, with a victory over the Saint Martin’s Saints of Lacey, Washington on Thursday night, and a defeat at the hands of the Seattle University Redhawks on Saturday night. The Saints were swept in three games, with scores of 30-28, 30-17, and 30-25. Blocker Katrina Jensen led UAF’s offense, with 12 kills and a .571 hitting percentage. April Blandford and Jessica King each notched seven kills, while Mallory McCormick and Crystal Wheelock contributed six more each. Other Nanook kills came from Jenna Jones, Sedra Zlock, Kayleen Stenehjem, and Miranda Trudeau. Attendance at the Patty Center on Thursday was 258, as the Nanooks improved their record to 1-2 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, or 1-6 overall. The visiting Saints dropped to 0-3 in the GNAC and 0-9 overall. On Saturday night, the Redhawks turned the tables on the Nanooks, winning three games in a row, by scores of 30-24, 30-26, and 30-14. Seattle’s Sarah Sommerman scored 12 kills, leading both teams’ offenses. UAF’s Wheelock notched nine kills. UAF took early leads in both of the first two games, 5-1 and 8-4, respectively, but the Nanooks were unable to hold Seattle’s offense. The Redhawks improved to 4-0 in the GNAC, with a record of 6-8 overall, while the Nanooks dropped to 1-3 in the GNAC, and 1-7 overall. Saturday night was Ft. Wainwright Appreciation Day at the Patty Center, allowing anyone with a Military ID free entrance, and 327 people showed up to root for the Nanooks. | ||||
