Gangly Moose album release party a huge hit

Friday night’s performance at The Pub by Gangly Moose was a strong confirming callout that the band, hailing from Fairbanks, provides the best jam in the entire state. The show formed part of their tour to promote their much-awaited new album, Northern Town.

From the start, the crowd's applause ignited members of the band for three hours. Consisting of a distinctive combination of lively ska, funk, tribal rhythms, reggae and fast paced songs ensured that the audience, and in particularly the hardcore frontliners, transformed The Pub into a glorious energy releaser for many UAF students.

Transgressing old-fashioned, sacrosanct music rules, aside from the mayhem, there were still fine moments to sit back, relax and enjoy the ride provided. After the first hour and a half, a break and light refreshment, the trumpet announced, with the tune of the Simpson’s theme song, that the ride was about to start again.

Throughout the second set, a constant influx of excitement joined the dance floor as ears were tweaked to the funky, grinding tunes. Looking around at all the faces in the audience, you could see everyone singing the words, testimony to the mass appeal and talent for the Moose's writing of accessible songs. Especially impressive was John, the bassist, who set the stage alight jumping around in his instantly recognizable checkered shirts.

At midnight, in the luxury of getting to the crowded bar, fellow student Michelle gasped, "This is quite possibly the best live band I’ve seen in a long time, a true reflection of Fairbanks! Tally ho!" before bouncing back through the tables onto the dance floor.
