Police Blotter

BRIKO BAGS A BOY

A vehicle was observed speeding near College Road and Farmers Loop just before midnight March 18. A traffic stop was attempted, but the vehicle sped away from the officer. It finally crashed into a snow berm and the driver ran from the scene. He was later apprehended by K9 Briko after a short foot chase, and charged for failing to stop at the direction of a police officer, reckless driving, driving with a revoked license, reckless endangerment (there was another juvenile passenger) and operating a vehicle as a minor after consuming alcohol.

NOT QUITE A GET AWAY

A vehicle with the keys left in the ignition was stolen near Harwood Hall March 9. It was found in the MBS lot with assorted personal belongings of the suspect who was contacted. Charges are pending.

DRIVING WITH THE DOPE

After being pulled over on Fairbanks Street for failing to stop at a stop sign, Jessie A. Joseph, 18, was found to be driving without a valid license. The smell of marijuana was noticed in the vehicle, and he admitted to having a marijuana pipe, which was confiscated. Joseph was cited for both offenses.

BLAME THE BOOZE

The smell of marijuana wafted from a room in Moore Hall around 3 a.m. March 8, attracting two police officers. Two of the three individuals present were cited for minor consuming, and the third, 25-year-old James R. Phillips, was arrested for violating his probation by drinking alcoholic beverages.

FIGHTING IRISH STYLE

A fight at the Patty Center was reported March 16 around 8:30 p.m. A security guard had already broken it up, but one of the juveniles was found to be a runaway and was taken to Fairbanks Youth Facility.

Another fight at the Patty Center was reported about two hours later, and this time a security guard was assaulted. Officers found the juvenile, who had kicked at the guard, and arrested him for assault, minor consuming and resisting arrest.

Two sisters got into a fight at the Inupiat House March 17 around 6 a.m. Both had been drinking and were cited for minor consuming.

TRASH TALKER

A drunk and disorderly male was reported at the Patty Center March 15. He was contacted and trespassed from campus.

A DEAD HORSE

A vehicle in the MBS lot had apparently been pushed across the lot and damaged by someone kicking it.

OFF CAMPUS UAFPD assisted the Drug Enforcement Administration with serving a search warrant on Kellum Way March 10.

UAFPD assisted the Drug Enforcement Administration with a drug sniff of a storage unit on Davis Road March 9.

UAF police assisted the Alaska State Troopers by locating a stolen vehicle on Sheep Creek Road March 9, and detained the driver until Troopers came to take over the case.

ODDS AND ENDS

Two laptop computers were reported stolen from Macintosh Hall March 14.

A webcam was reported stolen from the West Ridge greenhouse March 18.

The tailgate to a Ford pickup was reported stolen from the Taku parking lot March 17.
