CANINE’S NOSE KNOWS COKE The Drug Enforcement Administration seized four pounds of cocaine Feb. 18, with some help from UAF’s drug dog Briko. When the dog indicated the presence of the odor of narcotics on some seized items, investigators were able to obtain a search warrant that led them to the drugs. THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY Three speeding vehicles driving recklessly and cutting off other vehicles were reported by an eyewitness on West Tanana Drive Feb. 20. An officer caught up with two of the vehicles, stopping them both. One driver, 22-year-old Alex N. Pearce of Fort Wainwright, was issued a court summons. Occupants of both vehicles were trespassed from campus. SMOKE POT, GET BURNED A student who was allegedly smoking marijuana at the Cutler Apartments was reported to police Feb. 21. Residence Life staff were notified. SHATTERING Damage to a vehicle at MBS was reported around 10 p.m. Feb. 24. A person said he heard glass breaking in the parking lot, and he saw a black S.U.V. leaving. The owner was contacted. FOR OFFICIAL USE ONLY A Pizza Hut sign was reported stolen from the top of a delivery driver’s vehicle Feb. 22. BAGGED IN SEASON After a traffic stop on Taku Drive Feb. 19 for displaying seasonal on her license plate, 47-year-old Gloria E. Pitka was found to be driving while intoxicated. She later registered a .118 breath alcohol content and was arrested. CAR CRIPPLED, DRIVER OK Minor injuries were reported after a motor vehicle accident on Alumni Drive Feb. 22. The patient was not taken to the hospital, but the vehicle had to be towed from the scene. POWERS OF DEDUCTION An officer noticed Feb. 20 that a vehicle had apparently struck and damaged a light pole. There had been no reports of such an accident reported to police. FIX LIGHTS, GET BRIGHT After a traffic stop on a vehicle for equipment violations on West Tanana Drive, 42-year-old Lisa M. Murray was found to be driving while intoxicated. She was arrested and taken to jail. ODDS AND ENDS Hockey skates were reported stolen from an office at the Patty Center Ice Arena Feb. 22. A hit and run accident was reported in the MBS parking lot Feb. 18. A motor vehicle accident with no injuries was reported on Fairbanks Street Feb. 23. A minor motor vehicle accident was reported from Columbia Circle Feb. 21. -30-
