UAF Rifle Team Wins Fourth Straight Match

The University of Alaska Fairbanks' rifle team made it two wins in a row on the second day of their three-match road trip to the east.

The Nanooks defeated Kentucky Sunday, wining by a score of 4704 to 4620 at the Wildcats' shooting range. UAF shot identical scores of 2352 in both the small-bore and the air rifle competition.

Junior Jamie Beyerle shot 594 in small-bore to lead the Nanooks, while senior Karen Gerde shot 575 in the same competition. Freshman John Hogle shot 585 in small-bore and 581 in air rifle, while senior Joe Hein shot 586 in small-bore.

"Our whole team shot pretty well, we shot better today than we did yesterday (Saturday)," said UAF Head Coach Glenn Dubis. "We were up to par today (Sunday). Joe shot well, and his score is what he should be shooting each match. I think our performance was pretty typical of how it usually goes on this trip. I'm looking for us to shoot good scores in our match tomorrow (Monday) as well."

With the victory, UAF is now 4-0. The Nanooks concluded their road trip Monday with a visit to Murray State.
