Nanooks Earn GNAC All-Academic Honors

Three student-athletes from the University of Alaska Fairbanks volleyball team have earned Academic All-Conference honors.

They were among 30 student-athletes named to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference Volleyball Team.

Senior Mallory Bergstrom, who has a 3.23 grade point average in Psychology, junior Crystal Wheelock, who has a 3.32 GPA in Psychology, and sophomore Dasa Capova, who has a 4.00 GPA in Business Administration, represented the Nanooks. Bergstrom was a member of the team in 2002. Capova was the only student-athlete honored who had a perfect 4.00 grade point average.

"They're obviously good students, and they certainly have their priorities in order," said UAF Head Coach Phil Shoemaker. "They've done a great job balancing the demands of academics and athletics. We're very proud of them. They've set a great example, and they're great student-athletes."

To be eligible for the academic team, student-athletes must have a minimum grade point average of 3.20, and must not be in at least their second year of competition at their university.
