Police Blotter

NOT A THRU STREET

An off-campus vehicle failed to immediately stop for an officer around 2 a.m. Oct. 30, but turned and stopped farther down a side street instead. Alaska State Troopers responded to assist. A passenger was taken to jail for an outstanding warrant, and the driver was found to be intoxicated. Thirty-two year-old Pete Runt Elsing had a breath alcohol content of .182 and was also in possession of marijuana. He was arrested for failing to stop at the direction of a police officer, driving while intoxicated, and misconduct involving a controlled substance.

 

BEER MONEY, NOT CAB FARE

An intoxicated male called to request a ride to his off-campus residence Nov. 1. He stated that he rode his bike to campus, drank at the Pub, was too drunk to ride home, and did not have money for a taxi. He was given a ride home.

 

ONE HELL OF A HEADACHE

Police who responded to Moore Hall around 6 a.m. Nov. 2 deemed a distraught person who ingested a handful of non-prescription painkillers "not medically in danger." The matter was referred to Residence Life.

 

LOUD AND ROWDY

A female came to the police department Oct. 31 to report a possible domestic violence situation. Officers made contact with the subjects involved, but no injuries were observed. They stated that it was a verbal argument only, and an officer advised them about domestic violence and disorderly conduct.

 

LAST MINUTE COSTUMES

Some fire-fighting gear was reported stolen from Lathrop Hall around 11 p.m. Oct. 31. Most of it was recovered in the elevator, but the complainant was still missing a single glove. An officer responded to take a report.

 A costume cloak was also reported stolen from the Theatre Department Nov. 1.

 

STASHED

Police received a report of two subjects smoking pot in their Moore Hall dorm room Oct. 30. They consented to a search of the room, but the officer found neither marijuana nor any type of smoking device.

 

BIPEDS ONLY

After stopping a vehicle for driving over a sidewalk Oct. 30, an officer found the 26-year-old driver, Jared Michael Woods of Anchorage, to be intoxicated. Woods had a breath alcohol content of .096 and was taken to jail. His car was released to one of the passengers who had not been drinking.

 

STEER CLEAR

After seeing a vehicle in the ditch at Ballaine Lake Oct. 31 around 3:30 a.m., an officer found the driver to be intoxicated. Thirty-year-old Charles C. Newberg Jr. had a breath alcohol content of .140 and was taken to jail.

 

THINGS THAT GO BUMP

Driving erratically, a vehicle on Salcha Street was hit after it pulled out in front of someone Nov. 1. The driver of the other vehicle called the police, who responded and found her to be fine. She left without exchanging information with the erratic driver, but there was minimal damage to her vehicle.

 

HELPING THE FEDS

An officer assisted the Fairbanks Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration with an off-campus investigation Oct. 16.
