Pat
Rivera made a great point in her 10/26 letter in which she encouraged UAF to
pursue the use of waste paper pellets to mix with coal in order to generate
electricity. If I recall correctly (and someone correct me if I'm mistaken),
years ago UAF had a contract with Ralph Bartlett to do just this, and apparently
the powers that be (at UAF or Usabelli Coal in Healy, or both) decided to
abandon the project. I heartily agree with Pat that, on the surface, this makes
sense, and that hopefully the idea can be reconsidered. On a
related subject I wanted to thank Linden Transport, UAF and all those involved
in creating and maintaining the glass recycling program. The Taku Lot glass bins
are certainly being used by the community, and I know that folks very much
appreciate the ability to recycle/reuse glass. |
