One on one with Joe Blanchard

Senator Joe Blanchard was recently elected ASUAF Senate Chair after Senator H.B. Telling stepped down from the position.  The Sun Star sat down with Joe to discuss the matters important to all of us.

SS: First off, who is your favorite Beatle?

Joe Blanchard: I like Ringo, he had the best name.  He was the heart and soul of the Beatles.  He kept them going.

SS: What exactly do you do as the ASUAF Senate Chair?

JB: The most important thing I do is make sure the Senate conducts business in a proper and civil manner.  I also serve as a liaison to various organizations, such as President Walker, especially those requiring funding.  General issues come to me, and I then filter them down to various committees.

SS: Where are you from?

JB: Soldotna Alaska, down in the Kenai Peninsula.

SS: Do you have a current squeeze?

JB: No, I am very single.  I am an available Senate Chair.

SS: Favorite Piece of Art?

JB: The Petronas Towers in Malaysia.  I like any sort of grandiose architecture.  Monuments, buildings, that kind of thing.

SS: Favorite Part of Alaska?

JB: The mountains.  I like to climb, and go hiking on trails.

SS: Where would you like to retire?

JB: Alaska.  I may leave for a while one day, but I'll probably end up somewhere around here for the rest of my life.

SS: Anything else?

JB: I would encourage all on and off campus, full time and part time students—all students—to try and get involved in student government.

SS: Amen, Joe, Amen.

Joseph Blanchard, the newly elected ASUAF Senate Chair, took some time to chat with the Sun Star.
