I'm eating humble pie, and Alex Grantham is getting pizza.

I know…it just doesn't seem fair.

"The Lord of the Rings: the Return of the King" did the impossible and took home each and every Oscar it was nominated for: Best Visual Effects, Best Sound, Best Score, Best Song, Best Makeup, Best Costumes, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Director, and, of course, Best Picture of 2003.

Host Billy Crystal said it best: "By now everybody in New Zealand has been thanked."

Other winners who weren't hobbits included Sean Penn for Best Actor and Charlize Theron for Best Actress.

And Alex called ‘em all!

At the beginning of the night, Alex's predictions were running neck and neck with mine—but then he pulled ahead in leaps and bounds. 

Now don't get me wrong, I did get some of them right.  I knew Tim Robbins and Renee Zellweger would be honored for their supporting roles, and Sophia Coppola's original script for "Lost in Translation" just had to win.  But those weren't enough for me to win our wager.

By the end, ten of Alex's fourteen predictions were dead on, while I had to throw in the towel with a measly eleven out of nineteen.

Let me tell you, it wasn't pretty.

But a friendly wager is a friendly wager, so Alex will get his pizza.  I just hope he doesn't choke on the mushrooms!
