ADDING UP THE CHARGES A 27-year-old Fairbanks resident
was arrested on College Road after being implicated in a hit and run accident.
Donnie R. Williams was taken to jail just after midnight Jan. 9 for refusing a
breathalyzer test, driving while intoxicated, failing to stop at the direction
of a police officer, plus three other Alaska State Trooper citations. The next
day a search of an item taken from the vehicle tested positive for cocaine and a
drug possession charge was added. CAUGHT, PANTS DOWN An individual urinating in the
Beaver Sports parking lot was observed in the early morning of Jan. 10 and
arrested for violating conditions of his release from jail. Mario Lujan, of
Fairbanks, was taken to Fairbanks Correctional Center. CAN YOU FEEL THE LOVE? An anonymous Moore Hall caller
tipped off police to the sale of the drug ecstasy Jan. 22. Charges have been
referred to the District Attorney's office. "...ALL THREE WERE SMOKINGG
MARIJUANA CIGARETTES. REEFER." An officer approached three
subjects who were smoking behind the Patty Center around 11:00 p.m. Jan. 14.
Although the officer was told that they had just been smoking cigarettes, a pat
down for weapons located a bag of marijuana in the jacket of one of the
subjects. Controlled substance violations are pending on the three individuals
and one was issued a trespass from all UAF property. FUNKY SMELLIN' The pungent aroma of burning
marijuana was noticed coming from a residence at Skarland Hall Jan. 17. An
officer arrived and seized a few buds along with some paraphernalia. Residence
Life will be handling any disciplinary actions. TWIST OF FATE A man who had come to the Police
Department Jan. 9 for a routine fingerprinting was advised that his license was
suspended. Nathan D. Turner was arrested when an officer recognized him later
driving on Geist Road. STICK ‘EM UP! A 911 hang-up call resulted in an
arrest at the Butrovich Building Jan. 22. When an officer made contact with the
caller, he would not remove his hands from his sweatshirt pocket upon being
asked to do so and was detained. The subject was taken to College Road and
released with a trespass from all UAF property for five years. NO, SMOKING PLEASE A Wickersham Hall occupant, who had
cut the wires to his smoke detector, was issued a summons for criminal mischief
Jan. 18. An officer had responded with the fire department to what they thought
was a single room fire and discovered that Patrick J. Rider, 24, was in fact to
blame for triggering the automatic alarm. HIDE N' GO SEEK Alaska State Troopers requested the
assistance of UAF's K-9 unit in locating a suspected car thief near Farmer's
Loop Market Jan. 14. The suspect was found hiding in the extended cab portion of
a nearby truck that he had run to after ditching the stolen vehicle. ODB GETS DUI WITH BAC A 64-year-old Fairbanks man was
arrested for DUI after he was involved in an accident near the Physical Plant at
about 12:15 a.m. Jan. 22. Everett P. Wenrick was arrested with a blood alcohol
content of .106 and cited for failing to stop at a traffic signal. The vehicle
was released to his wife. TWO STEPS BACK A 20-year-old woman was arrested at
the upper dorms Jan. 22 after residence administrators called in a trespassing
notification for two individuals. Sofia Nan Costales of Fairbanks had a warrant
for failing to appear at a court hearing in Ketchikan and was issued a trespass
from all UAF property. A CALL TO ACTION A concerned individual reported
marijuana use at West Valley High School around 2:00 p.m. Jan. 9. A suspicious vehicle was observed
in the West Valley parking lot around 2:00 a.m. Jan. 10. The vehicle allegedly
committed a minor traffic violation as it attempted to leave the parking lot and
was pulled over. Fairbanksan James A. Gates, 19, was found to be in possession
of marijuana. DEMOLITION DERBY A woman's vehicle was damaged
Jan. 18 in a hit and run accident somewhere on campus, leaving her bumper almost
completely knocked off. Police noted that the incident took place around 6:30
p.m., but did not report the location at which it occurred. A hit and run accident in the
Nenana parking lot was reported Jan. 13. SAYING GOODBYE A cell phone belonging to a
Fairbanks resident was taken from the women's restroom of Chicago O'Hare
International Airport and reported stolen to University Police Jan. 14. They
said that it was likely reported for insurance purposes. SHOW ME THE MONEY A Wood Center ATM machine was
damaged Jan. 9. Police said an unknown person or persons had tried to break into
the machine. FALSE ALARMS A digital camera, memory cards, and
a bag were reported as being taken from a room in the Duckering Building Jan.
15. The complainant called back later to say that he had located said items and
wanted to cancel the erroneous report. A purse was reported as lost by
someone in the Bunnell Building the night of Jan. 14. The next morning, the
complainant called to say that the purse had been located. POSSIBLE THEIVERY A possible theft from the Arctic Health building was reported Jan. 14. |
