Alaska Volleyball 2009 Summer Camps

Beginner Skills Camp, July 6–8. This is the place to start! A terrific three-day (9 a.m.–4 p.m.) experience to introduce a solid foundation of the fundamental skills of the game. Recommended for girls and boys with one year or less of organized training; usually grades 6-7. Lots of drills and games to develop individual skill proficiency and confidence which leads to success in the team game. A good introduction to our Intermediate Skills Camp. Each camper will receive an Alaska Volleyball t-shirt. Camp fee is $160 if registered on or before May 16; $185 after May 16.

Intermediate Skills Camp, July 14–17. An exciting, fast paced, four-day camp (9 a.m.–4 p.m.) for girls and boys focusing on the FUNdamental skills required for volleyball success. Lots of drills, games, contests, and prizes in a fun, cooperative and success oriented atmosphere. Perfect for girls and boys with at least one or more years of organized volleyball training; usually grades 8-10. Each camper will receive an Alaska Volleyball t-shirt. Camp fee is $175 if registered on or before May 16; $200 after May 16th.

Advanced Skills Camp, July 20–23. A challenging four-day (9 a.m.–4 p.m.) volleyball training experience for players who are ready to compete at the high school varsity and junior varsity level; usually grades 10-12. The development of solid technical and tactical skills will be emphasized. Games, contests, and prizes offer a friendly competitive atmosphere. Each camper will receive an Alaska Volleyball t-shirt. Camp fee is $175 if registered on or before May 16; $200 after May 16. Important! Early Registration Is Advised! Space Is Limited!

Challenge Life Basketball Academy

Team Camp, June 17–21. This camp is for boys grades 8-12 to help improve team skills in game situations. Contact Coach Johnson prior to the camp if you do not have a team to play with.

Position Play Camp, June 22–24. This camp for boys grades 8-12 is designed to present advanced skills and take the serious players to the next level.

Co-ed Fundamental Camp, June 25–27. This camp is for grades 3-8 and is designed to teach the fundamentals. All players receive instruction on shooting, passing, defending, rebounding, and lay ups. Skills are taught using drills and a variety of fun games.

Darryl Smith Girls Basketball Camps

Individual Fundamentals Camp (Girls Grades 8–12), June 1–4. Overnight and Commuter, 9 a.m.–9 p.m. This is a back to basics camp with an emphasis on fundamentals. It will include one on one, three on three, and five on five competition. It is for all skill levels.

Youth Fundamentals Camp (Girls Grades K-6) June 8–11, 8–11:45 a.m. This camp is for beginners and has an emphasis on the fundamentals of shooting, passing and ball handling.

Team Camp (High School females) June 12–14, Overnight and Commuter, 9 a.m.–9 p.m. This is a Team Camp with an emphasis on five on five competition, individual instruction, work on team offense and defense, and fast break techniques. Includes guest speakers and demonstrations.

UAF Summer Recreational Camp

July 6–August 14, 2009

A wide variety of traditional and unique sport and recreational activities are offered at the SRC.

This is a camp where CAMPERS decide their schedule for the week and participate in hour-long activities. Activities include archery, basketball, badminton, bowling, climbing wall, flag football, floor hockey, lacrosse, new games, parachute games, riflery, racquetball, soccer, swimming, softball, tennis, table tennis, Ultimate Frisbee®, volleyball and more.

Campers with the help of staff decide their schedule for the week and participate in hourlong activities. Children ages 5–17 are divided into co-ed groups according to age. Summer camp is sponsored by the UAF Athletics and Recreation Department.

USA Volleyball

Girl’s High Performance Development Camp

July 9–12, 2009

First USA Volleyball camp ever in Alaska! Open to female athletes born in the years 1992, 1993, 1994, and 1995 who want to train under the guidance of a USA High Performance coaching cadre. Most of the training time (three sessions daily) will be spent on skill development utilizing methods to complement the USA Volleyball National Team System, and to evaluate the future potential of these players as athletes for USA Volleyball. USA Volleyball partners with American Athlete for this development camp.
