WINTERmester

WINTERmester

WINTERmester - 3 credits in 2 weeks!

January 4-15, 2010

WINTERmester is an excellent opportunity to take a three-credit course before Spring Semester 2010 begins.

WINTERmester classes are intensive, meeting five days a week, January 4-15. Most courses require reading to be completed prior to the start of class. Check for the course syllabi link on this page and get your textbooks before leaving for winter break. Textbooks will be available in the campus bookstore, not through the online service.

WINTERmester registration is available at uaonline.alaska.edu or on the Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning secure registration form for continuing students as follows:

  • November 9 and thereafter - Continuing UAF juniors, seniors, and graduate students.
  • November 10 and thereafter - All continuing UAF students.
  • November 16 and thereafter - Registration is available for everyone and may be completed using the In-Person Registration Form.

WINTERmester payment must be completed by January 4. Special arrangements are available for students receiving spring financial aid.

Enrollment is permitted in only one three-credit course during WINTERmester.

Registering for a 100 or 200 level WINTERmester course requires a 2.5 gpa.

Dorm housing is available. Contact Residence Life for information and reservations at 907-474-7247.

Student Spotlight

WINTERmester is great and came at a critical juncture in my academic career. As a senior with my last semester rapidly approaching I realized that I needed to fill an overlooked core requirement–FAST! Fortunately WINTERmester offered the course I needed. In just two weeks I had that course behind me and graduation was within reach.  (Will Quintal, UAF alumnus)

FAQ

How many credits can I take in WINTERmester? Limit of three.

Are WINTERmester credits counted in my total spring credit load? Yes.

What if WINTERmester causes a credit overload in my spring schedule? Banner will not accept a registration that creates a credit overload without prior authorization. It is understood that a WINTERmester course is offered in a separate time frame from other spring courses, but Banner doesn’t see it that way. To get permission entered into Banner for an overload requires an advisor’s signature on the intent to register form or an advisor or student email to susan.culley@alaska.edu in the Registrar’s Office requesting an overload permission entry in Banner. Call 907-474-6856 for additional information.

What about housing during WINTERmester? Dorm space will be available during WINTERmester. Check with the Office of Residence Life for more information. 474-7247.

When is payment due? Payment is due the first day of class, January 4. If you have guaranteed financial aid, that will be applied to your account on January 11, and late fees begin January 12. Verify your financial aid status with the Financial Aid Office, Eielson room 101.

What about dates and deadlines for WINTERmester?
January 4 - Last date for drop with 100% refund. No partial refunds.
January 11 - Last day for student or faculty initiated withdrawal and change to audit with instructor permission.

How do I get prepared for the first class?  Buy your books at the campus bookstore before leaving for break. Check out the syllabus (link above) for the reading requirements before the class begins.

Do employee tuition waivers work for WINTERmester? Yes
