Want to be able to put up a web page without the investment of weeks of your time? This two-weekend course in website design will give you the tools to make a multi-page website for your personal or business interest, educational pursuit, or for a non-profit organization. This course will focus on the incorporation of text and images with an emphasis on design using Adobe Dreamweaver website design software.

Profile: Sherrie Roberts has taught web design for the past three years and is a web developer with UAF University Marketing and Publications. Her expertise is in web design with an emphasis on CSS, XHTML and Javascript. This course runs for two weekends (Friday from 6-9 pm and Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm).

Bike Maintenance and Repair

Want to know more about how to keep your bike in good repair? This course spread over four evenings will give you the understanding, hands-on experience and a list of the tools you will need to keep your bike on the road. Drive train, shifting, brakes, wheels, tires, tubes, steering systems, cable replacement and lubrication will all be covered. Instructor, Simon Rakower will review the geometry and physics of a bicycle so that you can better understand this most efficient means of transportation. Bring your bike and be prepared to get your hands dirty.

Instructional fee: $75.

Profile: Simon Rakower is not just a bicycle enthusiast. Simon lives and breathes bicycles. He is the former owner of All Weather Sports and the inventor of the Snow Cat rims for riding on snow. He has outfitted many Iditasports participants.

Introduction to Sound Reinforcement

Would you like to know more about the technical side of sound production? This one-credit course could be the answer. Over the course of four evenings sound reinforcement specialist, Josh Bennett will cover the basics of microphone placement, console operation, gain structure, and speaker set-up. He will start with the physics of sound and move on to hands-on experience with sound equipment. By the end of the course you should be able to set up a basic sound system including microphone, mixer, amplifiers and speakers.

Profile: Josh Bennett has a degree in Show Production and Touring from FullSail University in Orlando, Florida. He own his own company, Sound Reinforcement Specialists in Fairbanks and is happily making his living working with sound.

Oral History Workshop

Interested in capturing the stories of your family or community members? Two professionals will help you give life to the stories of the past. You will learn to record and process oral histories with an introduction
to the equipment, interview process, transcribing, releases and more. Come prepared to jump into the thick of it.

Instructional fee: $40.

Profiles: Robyn Russell and Karen Brewster currently work for the Oral History Program at
the Rasmuson Library. Robyn is the collections manager for the UAF Oral History Program collection and has a B.A. in Journalism from UAF and a Master’s in Library Science from the University of Arizona, Tucson. Karen is a Research Associate with the Oral History Program at the Rasmuson Library and has a Master’s Degree in Oral History/Folklore from UAF.
