Undergraduate Summer Tuition Awards

Summer Sessions & Lifelong Learning (SSLL) offers a limited number of three-credit undergraduate tuition awards for SSLL courses to qualified students with financial need. SSLL awards cover tuition only.Textbooks and fees are the responsibility of the student.

  • New Students Tuition Award:  This award is available to new students who are just beginning their academic career. An applicant must be 18 years of age or older and have accumulated no more than 12 university credits.The application process includes a personal statement addressing academic goals and financial need as well as statements of support fromtwo professional references
  • Continuing UAF Students Tuition Award: This conditional tuition award is for UAF degree seeking students serious about their academic progress. Students must have a 2.5 GPA and a completed FAFSA that verifies financial need.The application process includes a personal statement addressing academic goals and financial need as well as statements of support from  two professional references .Students must complete the course provided by the tuition award with a grade of C (2.0) or better. If the course is not successfully completed by August 16 the award will be withdrawn and the student will be responsible for tuition costs. Review the application form for additional information. Allow up to two weeks for application processing.


Applications are accepted through the following dates if funds remain available.

  • May 6 for MAYmester
  • May 20 for the Full Session and Six-week Session I
  • June 27 for Six-week Session II

Please note: The tuition award can only be used for a course sponsored by SSLL that meets a graduation requirement as verified by your advisor. A course that is sponsored by SSLL can be identified by the section number starting with ‘F’ and followed by a number, not a letter, example: ENGL F111X - F61. Contact SSLL if you have any questions about qualifying courses.

Students who receive the SSLL Tuition Award are not eligible for the Sweet Summer Deal and vice versa.


Graduate Tuition Awards

Summer Sessions & Lifelong Learning (SSLL) offers a limited number of tuition awards for continuing UAF graduate students. Qualifying students may receive up to $1,000 for a 600-level course or $500 for a 400-level course. Awards will be distributed to eligible applicants, in the order that applications are received, either until the funds are exhausted or until the May 1st, 2013 application deadline, whichever is first.

The SSLL Graduate Tuition Award may only be used for a course sponsored by SSLL that directly relates to the student’s degree. It cannot be used for research or thesis credits or for courses sponsored by eLearning & Distance Education. The tuition award may be used for qualifying individual study courses and special topic courses. Contact SSLL or the Graduate School if you have any questions about eligible courses.
