Where can I find a listing of the courses offered through Summer Sessions & Lifelong Learning (SSLL)?

Do I need to be admitted to UAF to register for SSLL classes?

No. SSLL offers open enrollment so you do not need to be formally admitted to the university to register for classes. If the course(s) you decide to register for has prerequisites you will need to provide transcripts or test scores that show you have met the prerequisites. Admission to a degree program is required for fi nancial aid.

How and when to do I register for classes?

Beginning February 25, 2013, if you have registered for any UAF course since 2006, you can register at UAOnline (uaonline.alaska.edu).

Students new to UAF may create a student account at UAOnline allowing you to make payment, check on grades and register for courses in the future. Go to uaonline.alaska.edu and select Apply for Admission. Though this is a gateway for admission to UAF, it is also an access point that will allow you to create a student account and register for summer courses. There is no fee for registering at this site. As you progress through the online directions, one of the options after choosing University of Alaska Fairbanks campus will be Application Type: Summer Sessions Registration. Select that option.

A second option for new students is to register for classes at the SSLL website (www.uaf.edu/summer/registration/). This option does not allow for payment, registration verifi cation or grade information. Additionally, it can take a couple of working days for registrations submitted at this site to be processed. Once your registration is processed you can make payment by calling the UAF Business Offi ce (907-474-7384). You can call SSLL at 907-474-7021 to determine your registration status.

After I register at the SSLL website or with a paper form, how do I know that I am actually in those classes?

Check your registration status at UAOnline (uaonline.alaska.edu) using the help link if necessary. If you have problems accessing UAOnline, do not hesitate to call the SSLL office at 907-474-7021 or 866-404-7021 toll free to confirm your registration. You will NOT receive an email or any other written confirmation of your registration.

How/ when do I pay tuition and fees?

You can pay tuition and fees using UAOnline (uaonline.alaska.edu), in person at the Business Office in Signers’ Hall, or by calling the Business Office with credit card information (907-474-7384).

All fees and tuition for courses that you are currently registered for must be paid within the payment period of your first class. If you register for a class and decide not to attend the class you MUST drop the course or you will be responsible for the tuition and fees for that course. See the Dates and Deadlines calendar for information regarding refunds and drops. Remember that summer classes are condensed, so the time frame for dropping and getting a 100% refund is very short.

If I am moved into a class that I am waitlisted for and I have already paid my bill, how do I pay for the wait listed class?

If you have already paid for your classes, then you have five business days to pay for the course that was added to your schedule through the wait list process. If you fail to pay for the course within that time frame, you will be charged a $50 late fee.

Where can I purchase books and supplies?

The bookstore is located in Constitution Hall. It is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition to purchasing new and used textbooks, many titles are now rentable or available as e-books. Learn more at the UAF Bookstore or talk to a textbook clerk at 907-474-6858.

Do I need a parking permit to park on campus? where can I park?

Yes. All students, staff and faculty are required to have a current parking permit or short term parking permit to park on any UAF or UAF Community & Technical College lot.

Check the campus map (www.uaf.edu/campusmap/) for a complete view of the layout of parking lots and buildings on campus. All yellow lots are designated as UAF permit parking only.

How do I access my university email account?

Every student at UAF is assigned a UA ID number and an email account. Official university correspondence (such as a student bill) is sent to this UAF email address. Activate your student account following the instructions at ELMO (elmo.alaska.edu/). Once you complete this process and have set up your UA username and password, go to www.alaska.edu/google/ to choose the Google application you would like to log in to (Mail, Calendar, Documents, etc). If you’re having trouble getting into your account, call the OIT Support Center at 907-450-8300 for assistance.

How do I drop a class?

You can use UAOnline (uaonline.alaska.edu) to drop a class if you are within the time period when classes can be dropped with no penalty. You can also use the secure online ADD/DROP form on the SSLL website to drop a class. See UAF's Dates and Deadlines schedule for additional information.

It is extremely important to drop or withdraw from classes that you do not plan to attend. This action can save you money, prevent a failing grade on your transcript and eliminate the possibility of registration holds on your account.

What do I do if I have trouble using UAonline?

When using UAOnline (uaonline.alaska.edu) you need to have your UA ID number (all students registering for classes are assigned a UA ID number) and your pin number ready to access the secure area of UAOnline. If you do not know your UA ID number there is a link to “look up your ID here.” You will be prompted to supply some identifying information including your Social Security number. If you have withheld your Social Security number when registering you will NOT be able to access your UAOnline account at this time. You can get your UA ID number from Admissions and Registration Services by providing a photo ID or using the information at the bottom of the Look-Up page. See number 4 below if you have used UAOnline but forgotten your PIN. Below are some possible reasons why you may be having problems using UAOnline:

Do you have holds on your account? Check your registration eligibility at UAOnline. Clear the holds and try again.
If you have not registered for a UAF course since 2006, you will not be able to access UAOnline.
If you recently registered at a UA campus other than Fairbanks, UAOnline will not accept your UAF registration.
If UAOnline will not accept your PIN and you used the “FORGOT PIN?” link but still cannot get into UAOnline you might try the following:
- Bring a photo ID to Admissions and Registration Services and request a pin reset.
- Contact Admissions and Registration Services (www.uaf.edu/reg/, 907-474-7500) to request a PIN reset. You will be asked a series of security questions.
- Fax a legible copy of your picture ID, phone number, email address, signature and request to reset PIN to 907-474-7097. You will be contacted by email when reset.

Is there any sort of financial help during the summer?

Students newly admitted for summer can fill out a FAFSA (www. fafsa.ed.gov/) for the 2011-2012 academic year.

Yes. We know that working during the summer for college students is a high priority so we do all we can to make Summer@UAF financially possible for students.

Along with traditional financial aid, SSLL offers its own assistance programs for undergraduate study at UAF.

First and foremost remember that tuition increases take effect in the fall so summer is your last chance to take courses at lower tuition rates. Also SSLL offers in-state tuition for all (undergraduate and graduate students).

The Sweet Summer Deal (SSD) and the R.G. & Onnie V. Bouchum/La Shina R. Jones Memorial Summer Scholarships.

The SSD provides a financial incentive for undergraduate students to take up to 14 credits over the summer. You pay the tuition for the first ten and we pay for any credits beyond ten (up to 14) that you successfully complete.

The two $500 R.G. & Onnie V. Bouchum/La Shina R. Jones Memorial Summer Scholarships are available for UAF sophomores, juniors and seniors.

SSLL continues to offer three-credit tuition awards for qualifying continuing and new UAF undergraduate students.

The Earn and Learn Program provides assistance finding a job on campus for any student (16 years of age or older) who is registered for a minimum of six summer credits.

Is housing and food available on campus during the summer?

Yes. Housing is available for anyone who is registered for one or more credits during Summer Sessions. As long as you are attending classes you can live in the dorms. Food is available on campus seven days a week. Hours vary depending on location.
