High School Students

Jump Start provides an opportunity for high school students admitted
to UAF for the fall semester to acclimate to college life in a supportive environment during the
summer. This program is offered during Summer Sessions 2008 and will serve 20 students who are accepted
to UAF for the 2008 fall semester. The program will run from May 27-Aug15.
To apply, complete the Jump Start application form and University of Alaska Applicant Form. You may submit your own resume or use the University of Alaska Resume Form. You will need to prepare a one-page statement explaining why you are applying and what you hope to contribute. Two letters of reference are required, one of which must be from your current high school counselor. The complete set of application materials must be submitted to the UAF Summer Sessions Office by April 28, 2008.
Components
1. Enrollment in a three-credit course of your choice.
2. Enrollment in a three-credit Team Building course spanning 12 weeks. This course will include topics such as campus orientation, study skills, time management, group dynamics and leadership skills. A tuition waiver is provided for this course.
3. Part-time on-campus employment (20 hours per week). This work opportunity will help with campus familiarity and provide you with some income to offset the cost of tuition, books and fees for your summer credits.
