UA Scholars
UA SCHOLARS
The UA Scholars Program will allow incoming freshman to use scholar funds during the summer. UA Scholars can put part of their $11,000 award to work sooner and get a head start in college by enjoying the many benefits of attending Summer Sessions at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
The University of Alaska Fairbanks is committed to providing every possible means of support to its current and perspective students. If you are planning to be a full-time student at UAF in the fall and you enroll in at least 12 credits this summer, you can use your UA Scholar funds. This will put your award to work for you immediately and open the door to many advantages available at Summer@UAF.
The Summer Advantage
Finish an entire semester in one summer. Take up to 17 credits, a full semester’s worth, and get a jump on your college career. You could have one-eighth of your education completed before your fellow freshmen arrive on campus.
Lower tuition means your award is stretched further. A tuition increase will go into effect in the fall, which means this summer’s tuition will be the least expensive of your college career.
Summer is the perfect transition from high school to college. The transition from high school to college can be challenging. Summer classes help to relieve some of the pressure because there are fewer students, offering more personal time with professors.
There’s additional financial help available. If you are admitted to a UAF degree program, you are eligible to apply for financial aid for the summer. Qualifying students can receive up to $2,675 in Pell Grants. In addition, several of the research institutes on campus have identified summer student jobs for qualified UA Scholars.
On-campus academic support is available. Academic Advising, the Writing Center and the Math lab offer a well-supported learning experience.
Not all the activity is in the classroom. UAF Outdoor Adventures (LINK) offers hiking, kayaking, canoeing and other adventure opportunities all summer long. The Student Recreation Center (LINK) offers exercise and weight training equipment as well as open gym floors for everything from racquetball to volleyball to cricket. New in 2010 will be the Frisbee Golf course on campus.
