Residence Life
Students registered for one or more credits during Summer Sessions are eligible to live in university housing during the dates of their course(s). UAF residence halls offer a scenic view of the Alaska Range and Mount McKinley, also known as Denali, the highest peak in North America.
Residence halls—The residence halls feature double occupancy, single, and double single rooms (room built for two, occupied by one). Each room includes hookups for cable TV and internet. Residents provide their own television and computer with ethernet card. Each room is furnished with an extra long twin bed, desk, chair, dresser, shelving and closet. Residents provide their own linens or may purchase a linen packet through Residence Life.
Bartlett Hall is a traditional residence hall with a common bathroom and lounge or laundry room on each floor. The hall has a common kitchen and recreation room on the main floor. The Moore-Bartlett-Skarland (MBS) Complex is located on upper campus near the Reichardt Natural Sciences Building. Check-in is available 24 hours per day. Information regarding check-in will be sent once the housing application has been processed.
Students under 18 years of age who wish to stay in campus residence halls need approval from the Department of Residence Life and should apply at least one month prior to arrival.
Long-term housing (22 nights or more)—Residence Life offers long-term housing for single students in Bartlett Hall for students staying 22 nights or longer on campus. Short-term housing (21 nights or less)—Short-term housing will be located in Skarland Hall. Reservations can be submitted at www.uaf.edu/guesthousing/reservations/guest-reservation-form/ either by completing the online form or by downloading and printing the reservation form and faxing the completed form to 907-474-6423. Reservations can also be made by contacting Conference Services at fycserv@uaf.edu or 907-474-6769, or by completing the reservation form available online at www.uaf.edu/reslife/guest/ and fax to 907-474-6423. Daily rates for 2011 are $39 for a single and $46 for double-single room.
Family housing—Furnished apartments for summer students and their families are available on a limited basis. Rates vary depending on the size of the apartment. The summer application and rates are available online at www.uaf.edu/reslife/. Both part-time and full-time students are eligible for family housing, but full-time students have priority. Full-time status for undergraduates is defined by the following minimums: six credits during a six-week session, 12 credits over the course of the summer. Graduate students need nine credits, three of which are 600-level. Residents provide their own linens and eating utensils. All residential facilities are smoke free. Students accompanied by a spouse must provide a marriage certificate. Only immediate family members may reside with the enrolled student. Dining Services
Summer dining is available on campus seven days a week. Hours vary depending on location. Food may be purchased at Lola Tilly Commons, Wood Center, West Ridge Cafe in the Arctic Health Building and the museum coffee cart.
Payment options include cash, local check, MasterCard, Visa, Munch Money and Bear Bucks. Money that is deposited on your PolarExpress ID card, referred to as Munch Money or Bear Bucks, can be used at dining service locations and most vending machines on campus. Deposits can be made at any dining location and in 116 Eielson.
