Credit Policy

Maximum Credit Policy

Summer Sessions courses, while taught in a compressed time period, still require work equivalent to full-length courses offered during the fall or spring semesters. The credit load maximum of the fall and spring semesters applies to summer as well with the totals being adjusted for the compressed sessions.

In a six-week summer session, you may enroll in up to 7 credits without special permission.
In the full summer session, you may enroll in up to 15 credits without special permission.

Special permission for exceeding these credit maximums requires a 3.0 GPA and approval of advisor. A Credit Overload Approval form must be submitted to The Office of Admissions and The Registrar or to Summer Sessions & Lifelong Learning when summer course load is more than 7 credits in a six-week session or more than 15 credits over the course of the summer.

MAYmester and WINTERmester registration is limited to 3 credits. There are no exceptions; no overload permission will be given. Students must have a minimum 2.5 GPA to take a lower division core course during these highly compressed sessions.
